Sowing Seeds Sensory Menu Packages.
Thackley Centre
At Thackley Centre, our Sowing Seeds Wellbeing Sessions are delivered through our flexible Sensory Menu Packages, carefully designed to be tailored to each individual or small group.
Sessions are available as 1–2–1 or small group bookings, and every experience is shaped around a detailed understanding of each person’s needs. This includes sensory processing differences — whether visual, auditory or tactile — communication style, emotional regulation, mobility and physical access requirements (including hoist use), levels of independence, and any medical or behavioural considerations.
We support individuals with a wide range of additional needs, including ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder), PICA, OCD, highly specific sensory profiles, complex communication differences, and physical disabilities or mobility differences. These are never seen as barriers. They are part of how we plan thoughtfully, safely and respectfully.
A Regulation-First, Individualised Approach
Our Sensory Menu approach begins with preparation. Before each session, we take time to understand known triggers, environmental sensitivities and risk considerations.
We discuss visual sensitivities such as lighting levels, colour contrast or visual clutter. We consider auditory sensitivities, including sound levels, echo, sudden noise or background stimulation. For individuals with ARFID, we plan food-related experiences carefully and respectfully, ensuring no pressure and full understanding of sensory responses to texture, smell and presentation. For those with PICA, environmental safety is reviewed meticulously. For individuals with OCD, we consider routine, structure and reassurance needs.
We also explore communication methods, processing time, positioning requirements, mobility adaptations, hoist access and equipment needs. Our aim is simple: to reduce anxiety before it begins and to create an environment that feels predictable, safe, structured and empowering.
The Flow Room – Adapted with Care
Our Flow Room is dynamic and intentionally reconfigured before every session. It can be adapted to be low-stimulation and minimal for those with visual or auditory sensitivities. Where PICA is a concern, small or ingestible items are removed. For individuals with OCD, we create clear, predictable layouts and structured routines.
Lighting, layout, tools and pacing are adjusted intentionally. Sound levels are carefully managed. Movement areas can be enhanced for proprioceptive input or softened for calm regulation. Hoist-supported access and physical positioning are integrated seamlessly. Every detail is considered to support safety, dignity and regulation.
Sowing Seeds Sensory and Wellbeing
Our Sensory Menu Packages.
Participants may choose one pathway or blend elements from several, creating a bespoke experience.
Our Calm Package
This pathway focuses on regulation, grounding and predictable transitions. It includes experiences such as our Sunrise–Sunset Light Experience and Thermal Sensation Station. Visual intensity can be reduced, strong scents avoided and tactile materials carefully selected to suit individual sensory profiles. Structured routines can be incorporated where reassurance and repetition are beneficial.
Our Colour & Creativity Package
Designed to encourage expression and imagination without performance pressure, this pathway includes Light and Shadow Art Play and Sensation Painting Tools. Materials are selected with care for those with PICA, and options can be simplified for individuals who benefit from reduced choice or low visual stimulation. Noise levels are managed to maintain a calm creative environment.
Our Movement & Body Awareness Package
This pathway supports proprioceptive and vestibular regulation through structured movement experiences such as our Motion Lighting Pathway and Deep Pressure Sensation Zone. Activities are adjusted for mobility levels, physical positioning needs and hoist-supported access. Auditory input is moderated, and lighting effects are adapted to suit visual sensitivities.
Our Nature Nurture Package
Delivered within our accessible sensory garden, this pathway promotes connection, routine and emotional wellbeing through horticulture-based activities. Outdoor exploration is fully risk-assessed, and natural materials are selected thoughtfully if ingestion risk or tactile sensitivities are present. Visual and auditory input is managed to ensure calm engagement.
Our Forest School Package
Our Forest School-inspired sessions promote resilience, curiosity and managed risk in a structured way. Activities are adapted for mobility access, sensory sensitivities and routine needs. Tool use is always supervised, and participation remains within each individual’s comfort level. Outdoor sound and visual stimuli are considered carefully during planning.
Our Animal Connection Package
Animal-assisted sessions support trust, co-regulation and emotional safety. Interactions are calm, structured and paced according to comfort and communication needs. Sensory responses to fur texture, movement and sound are discussed beforehand, and participation is always voluntary and supported.
Our Sense & Connect Package
This pathway focuses on communication, autonomy and social engagement. It is designed to support non-verbal communication, assistive technology users and reduced-verbal processing. We allow extended processing time, reduce verbal overload and carefully manage auditory and visual stimulation within group activities.
Our Independent Living Studio Add-On
For an additional charge, sessions can incorporate access to our Independent Living Studio to build life skills and confidence. This includes cooking, routine-building and functional independence. For individuals with ARFID, food experiences are handled gently and without pressure. If PICA is present, materials and food preparation processes are carefully managed to ensure safety.
How We Tailor Experiences Safely
Our team carefully considers environmental safety, OCD-related structure and predictability, visual and auditory sensitivities, ARFID-related food considerations, communication processing time, physical positioning and hoist access, clear visual transitions, reduced clutter and real-time adjustments throughout sessions.
We prioritise dignity, collaboration and partnership with families and professionals at every stage.
The Importance of Play, Creativity and Curiosity
Even when needs are complex, play remains essential. Through safe exploration and carefully prepared environments, individuals can build confidence, experience joy, strengthen communication, develop independence, engage curiosity and improve emotional resilience.
Our spaces allow individuals to explore at their own pace, without pressure, judgement or comparison.
Booking Information
Sessions are available as private 1–2–1 bookings or small group wellbeing sessions. Pricing is dependent on the level of access and support required.
