Our Preparation for Adulthood Programme.
Across our two Bradford centres in Idle and Thackley as well as in homes, we deliver a range of comprehensive support programmes designed to empower individuals with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and their families. Our work directly addresses the significant challenges faced during the crucial transition periods of learning and preparation for adulthood; and, their journey towards greater independence in adulthood. We provide a vital dual-purpose service at Sowing Seeds Wellbeing that supports the entire family, recognising that the wellbeing of any individual with SEND is intrinsically linked to the wellbeing of their parents, carers family and the community they live within.
Our holistic and integrated model aims to provide emotional growth, practical skill development, and social connections, which can happen concurrently for both the individual with SEND and their support system. By offering a unique comprehensive and integrated service, we help families build greater resilience, effectively manage the anxieties associated with major life changes, and work together towards a more autonomous, connected, and fulfilling future.
A primary focus of our programmes is providing opportunities to prepare young people and adults with SEND to explore and practise for the world of work and greater independence. We offer structured and flexible opportunities to develop essential employability skills through carefully selected partnerships with providers, supported volunteering placements and targeted preparation for supported internships with external providers.
By building professional confidence and workplace stamina within a safe and supportive environment, we help our learners effectively bridge the gap between education and meaningful employment or further vocational training.
Sessions for parents & Carers
While individuals with SEND engage in this practical independence and employability training, we also offer dedicated sessions, training and support – both in person and virtually – for their parents and carers.
These sessions are vital for reducing the isolation and stress often felt when navigating complex life stages and support systems. Our programme creates a vital support network, offering a mix of in-person and virtual meet-ups where carers can build meaningful peer connections, share practical advice and strategies, and access expertise from relevant professionals and organisations.
What do learners gain?
As part of our PfA programme and Independent Life Skills training, our learner develops and practices essential daily living skills in our specially designed studio. Activities are carefully adapted for every learner, planned and include (as an example):
Developing and managing household responsibilities, such as meal preparation, cooking, and personal care routines
Building financial literacy and practical budgeting skills necessary for independent living and managing personal finances.
Gaining confidence in navigating the local Bradford community, including safe and independent use of public transport.
Developing crucial social skills to foster healthy relationships, build community connections, and reduce social isolation.
